OUCH!

As I put on the miles and miles I have been careful to avoid injury.  Yet, as I leaned over to prune a rose bush, my back seized up.  It hurts to just bend over and try to stand up off the couch.  Yet, I had no problem running 10 miles today.  It just doesn't make sense.

However, as we finished our ten mile run, it is amazing to look back and see how far I have come.  I was barely able to get a mile under my feet when i started 9 months ago.  And today----10 MILES!!!!  I know my whole goal was to run a half marathon but for the longest time I didn't tell anyone.  I was scared.  Scared I couldn't do it, scared that I would be horrible, just plain scared.  But as I have filled up my calendar with more and more races, I am no longer scared.  10 FREAKING MILES!!!

To understand the significance, if you don't know me, I am/was a couch potato.  I love nothing more than to sit on the couch and read.....for hours.  That isn't so good if you are trying to lose weight.  In fact, it causes your thighs and buttocks to spread out.  So I can blame my couch for my saddlebags.  Two weeks ago I shifted my workout schedule.  I was doing it mid-day to evening.  With summer approaching it just makes more sense to get up at 5am.  I can lengthen my workouts without impeding anything else on my schedule.  It is AWESOME!!!  Now I get to work out and I still get to read and spend time with my son.  Still trying to go to bed early but it will come in time.

Hopefully my back will get better soon.  I will have to take my strength training easier now.  We shall see how it goes tomorrow.
